I hope this isn't off-topic, but if it is, please feel free to let me know and I will remove it.

I am wondering what laptops are best for dorms. I don't envision myself taking my laptop all over the place; I'm still pretty old-fashioned in terms of taking notes by hand in class (it helps me learn, and being on the computer while someone is trying to teach me something just distracts me from what I'm supposed to be learning). Thus, my laptop will probably stay in my room most of the time. I am looking for something as affordable as possible, but also with very good performance and specs.
I am asking here because I am especially interested in suggestions made by those who do use laptops now in college. I am looking for a NON-Apple/Mac laptop.

Well, there are smaller laptops that are very portable; and there are also larger laptops that aren't quite so portable - often known as "desktop replacements". I have a larger desktop replacement laptop because no one at my school even brings their laptop to class so portability wasn't a concern for me. I have the Dell Inspiron 6000 and it's been good - no complaints so far. I like its nice big screen. I've heard some people hate Dell, but like I said, I've had no problems thus far and am enjoying my computer.
The IBM's are pretty sturdy. We give them out to students and they beat the hell out of them. They stand through a lot.
Hey there,

I'm trying to get my site out to as many people as I can. If you could use a good laugh or dig custom tees, please check it out. If you really like, help support by picking something up. Even if you don't buy anything, please pass on the link to other friends that you think way get a laugh from it.

Appreciate your help!! =)
I have a HP Pavillion dv4000 and it's PERFECT. 100G's and pretty fast. It's about 1500 bucks though, but well worth it. Do NOT get a DELL.
